George M. Zlupko, M.D., FCCP

Dr. George M. Zlupko is the senior partner and founder of Altoona Lung Specialists. He is the Director of the Lung Disease Center of Central Pennsylvania, which he founded in 2011. He also funded the Lung Disease Foundation of Central Pa. In 2017, Dr. Zlupko developed and now has a patent pending for the Pursed Lip Breathing Device, a tool designed to aid those who suffer from COPD.

Many of the current advanced procedures used locally in pulmonary medicine had their beginnings more than thirty years ago when Dr. Zlupko arrived in Altoona to add knowledge, direction, and expertise to the critical care unit and respiratory care department of the, then, Altoona Hospital. He brought with him the techniques of fiber optic bronchoscopy, followed by navigational bronchoscopy, and the new technique of Endobronchial Ultrasound most recently introduced by his son, Dr. Michael Zlupko.

Dr. Zlupko received the 2017 Blair County Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Person of the Year award. Dr. Zlupko’s vision and foresight in building the Lung Disease Center in downtown Altoona has provided him credit by many as a frontrunner for the recent rebirth and growth of the area. He supports numerous community and academic projects and events, including Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA where he is an alumnus.

He was educated at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania and attended medical school at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Dr. Zlupko’s internship was performed at Misericordia Hospital in Philadelphia and his residency and pulmonary training at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Darby, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Zlupko is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Academy of Wound Management, and the American Board of Preventive Medicine in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine. He is licensed to practice medicine by the State of Pennsylvania. Dr. Zlupko enjoys the distinction of being a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP).

Dr. Zlupko has privileges at Altoona Regional Health Systems, Tyrone Hospital, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, and the James E. VanZandt VA Medical Center. He also serves as the Medical Director for 365 Hospice.

Dr. Zlupko is renowned on the East Coast as a guest lecturer/speaker for medical professionals on subjects ranging from COPD and Lung Disease to smoking cessation. He was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, and he and his wife, Sandra, reside in Altoona, where they raised their four sons, all of whom are now grown.

Timothy A. Lucas, M.D., FCCP

Dr. Tim Lucas joined Altoona Lung Specialists in 2000. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Lucas attended medical school, and performed his internship, residency, and fellowship training, all at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Lucas is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine, as well as the American Board of Sleep Medicine. He enjoys the distinction of being a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.

Dr. Lucas has privileges at UPMC Altoona and is the Director of the Sleep Disorder Network in the Lung Disease Center of Central Pennsylvania.

Medical Dr. Lucas was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and he resides in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania with his wife, Tanya, who is a librarian, and their two daughters. Dr. Lucas is committed to the community and is a past Board Member of the Altoona Area School District.

Alan Kanouff, D.O., FCCP

Dr. Alan Kanouff joined the Altoona Lung Specialists in 2009. He received his education at the Pennsylvania State University in University Park Pennsylvania and his medical education at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He performed his residency at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and underwent his pulmonary training at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Kanouff is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Sleep Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases. He is also certified in Critical Care Medicine and Internal Medicine and is licensed by the State of Pennsylvania as a Doctor of Osteopathy. Dr. Kanouff has the distinction of being a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.

Dr. Kanouff was born in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, and raised in Coalport, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Melody, currently reside in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania with their four young children. Dr. Kanouff enjoys hunting and fishing, and he is a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers football fan.

Dr. Kanouff has been published on topics including Prevention of Nosocomial Infections in the Intensive Care Unit, Ventilator Associated Pneumonia, Pulmonary Hypertension, as well as several others.

Dr. Michael C. Zlupko joined the Altoona Lung Specialists in 2013. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA.  Dr. Zlupko received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA.  He performed his internal medicine residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA and completed his pulmonary and critical care training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, OH.

Dr. Michael C. Zlupko is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine.  He is licensed to practice medicine by the State of Pennsylvania with privileges at UMPC Altoona, Tyrone Hospital, and the James E. VanZandt Veteran’s Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Michael C. Zlupko was trained in the bronchoscopic technique of endobronchial ultrasound during his fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Michael C. Zlupko was born and resides in Altoona, PA with his wife, Erica, who is also from Altoona, and their two daughters.
